United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Refugee Status

The United Nations has set clear regulations and definitions relating to refugees in the United Nations Convention Relating to Status of Refugees. These definitions have evolved with different geopolitical tensions since its formation; however progress in accepting, protecting and according all the rights according to the convention to these refugees fails to happen at a universal scale. The UNHCR will be exploring the problems related to the stateless Kurds in Syria, Romas in Europe and Rohingyas in Southern and South Eastern Asia, along with the Afgani, Somali and Libyan refugee crisis. The council will also explore the scope for abuse in the refugee agreement between Australia and Malaysia. The aim of the council will be to propose solutions to the different refugee crisis faced by the respective nations and to draft a possible framework to prevent future maltreatment of refugees and stateless individuals.
