World Energy Council

Nuclear Energy

Nuclear power has been the global mainstay and until recent events looked to be the most appropriate solution to our future energy needs, given the limited availability of fossil fuels. However, with the latest disaster at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in Japan and with a past history of volatility the future of this energy source, especially in areas prone to natural disasters, has come under a huge cloud. Countries in need of alternative sources of energy, such as Germany, have even decided to discontinue their nuclear power programs due the hazards it presents. The World Energy Council will be debating the future of Nuclear Energy and additional safeguards to protect the technology and future fatal disasters. The dialogue about using nuclear power – and expanding it – centers on weighing these risks against the rewards, as well as the risks inherent in other forms of power generation. These are just some of the issues involved
