Participants of MUN generally have a number of queries about different aspects of the event. On this page we will try to provide answers for some of the common questions that people ask.
You can always contact us personally, but for your benefit, please do go through the information presented here in the website.
About MUN
1. What are the eligibility criteria for participating in MUN?
There are no criteria for registering in a MUN. Anyone who is interested in representing a country, being a diplomat in a simulation of the United Nations and getting the exposure of dealing with global issues, is welcome to come and be a part of NTU MUN 2012. However if we are over subscribed we shall utilize the answers you provided to the questions during the registration process in order to make our selection.So please answer the questions seriously.
2. What are the different councils in NTU MUN 2012?
The different councils in MUN 2012 are:
- Security Council
- World Energy Council
- General Assembly
- United Nations Human Rights Council
- International Monetary Fund
- European Union
- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
- International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats
The councils are described in more detail on their respective pages. Each participant is allowed to participate in only one council.
3. Do I need a partner to participate for every council?
Each council at NTU MUN 2012 offers positions only for single delegates.
4. Am I allowed to choose my country in a council of preference?
While we understand that the country you represent will shape your experience at the NTU MUN 2011, we cannot in all fairness allow you to choose your preferred country. We can however, assure you that all countries within each council are such that they will have a significant scope for participation.
We also believe that having a random allotment of countries will promote a greater variety of experiences at NTU MUN 2012.
5. When is the last date of registration?
Participants who register during the early bird window (before 1st November) and pay before 15th November enjoy our early bird discount (see Question 1 under Fees/Payment). The regular application deadline is 15th December.
6. How do we register a delegation?
All delegations must fulfill the following criteria:
- All members of the delegation must be from the same institution or university
- There must be representation in all councils and the press corps
- At least one quarter of the delegation must be made up of press delegates
Delegates must register individually using our online registration form. After which, a representative of the delegation has to send an email to registrations@ntumun.com stating the full names and registration numbers of members of the delegation.
7. Is there any limit to the size of the delegation?
No, there are no restrictions on the size of the delegation, as long as the above criteria have been fulfilled.
Registration Process
1. How do I register for NTU MUN 2012?
To register you have to set up an account first. Click on "Create Account" at the top right of the header bar. Follow the steps to set up an account.
Once you have set up an account and logged in, there will be a "My MUN Application" box on the sidebar, which click the "Apply Now" button, select the type of application you want to make and then proceed. Follow the instructions at every step to submit your application.
2. I got an error message during my registration process, what should I do?
Don't worry, send us your application number if you have it or send us your name and the email id you used to register. We shall get back to you as soon as possible.
3. I don't have a passport yet, is that a problem?
Not while you are registering, but you will need one to travel to Singapore. You may leave the field empty and we will get back to you later, once you have received your new passport. However, if you intend to apply as a delegate with accommodation, we will require your passport number by late December to for administrative matters.
4. Can I save the application and come back later?
Yes you may do so, all you need to do is log in again. The sidebar of each page will have a tracking box (titled "My MUN Application") which will keep track of the status of your application and let you return to it.
5. I have submitted my application. How do I know if it has been accepted?
We will send you an email regarding the status of your application.
Fees/Payment
1. How much is the registration fee? Is there any discount?
If you submit your application before the 1st of November, the registration fee is lower. Registrations in the period between the 1st of November and the 15th of December will be charged the regular fee. All successful applicants must complete payment within 1 week of their application being approved.
The fee structure is as follows:

NTU MUN registration fee is highly subsidized in every aspect to encourage participants. For the actual Nanyang Executive Centre accommodation rates, please refer www.ntu.edu.sg/NEC
Please note that the fee is the same for both delegates as well as for members of the executive panel.
2. What are the facilities included in the fees that I pay?
The NTU MUN consists of an Opening Ceremony on the evening of Feb 10th, Council sessions on the 11th Feb continuing till the 12th, and concludes with a Closing Ceremony on Sunday, 12th Feb. The registration fees include dinner on Friday, all 3 meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner – on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday.
For those who opt for accommodation, we provide accommodation for 3 days and 2 nights in the Nanyang Executive Centre within NTU.
We also have a Socials Night on Saturday for the participants to interact and mingle. Details on Socials Night will be finalised and the website updated accordingly at a later date.
3. How can I make the payment?
Payment can be made in two ways:
- A direct account transfer (wire) to the NTU MUN 2011 bank account. This is the preferred method of payment for both local and international participants. Account details will be found on your application home page once your application is approved.
- If you are not able to send us the fees via wire transfer, you can use PayPal to transfer money. You will need a PayPal account or a valid credit/debit card to pay using this method.
If you pay via PayPal the confirmation will be received within an hour whereas if you pay via account transfer we will confirm the payment within 36 hours.
4. What are the account details for wire transfer?
Once your application is approved, you can go to your application page and view the account details for bank transfer. If the bank requires any further information, you can drop us an email.
Dietary Preferences/Meals
1. Will there be vegetarian/halal food?
Of course! We take into consideration the food preferences of every delegate. We shall be asking for any specifications or special consideration participants need regarding food at the time of registration.
Travel Issues
1. How do I go to NTU/Will there be an airport pick-up?
In the case of local delegates, we expect you to reach NTU on your own on all three days of the event. Even if you are put up in Nanyang Executive Centre, we shall not be able to provide any mode of transport to you.
Singapore is a very tourist-friendly place where it is incredibly easy to get around. There is a taxi stand as soon as you get out of Baggage Claim in Changi Airport and the taxi drivers should easily be able to bring you to NTU. You can also contact any member from the organizing committee for help.
2. Do I need a visa to travel to Singapore?
Please check the ICA website to see if you require a Visa.
3. How do I apply for a visa? How long does it take?
Participants who have a local contact with a SingPass account – a password used in Singapore Government online services, which all Singapore citizens/Permanent Residents/Employment pass holders should have – can apply online through the ICA website (http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=168&secid=166) This type of application takes one working day to process (excluding day of submission).
If you do not have a local contact, please apply through the Singapore Overseas Mission in your country. Please check the respective mission's website for more details, as the application period varies. Also, please take note that the organizing committee will NOT be able to act as local contacts for visa applicants. However, we can assist you with any letters needed by the Embassy for the purpose of the visa.
4. Will insurance be included in the fees?
No, the registration fee does not include any form of travel insurance. International participants are advised to get your own insurance before travelling to Singapore.
5. What is the climate in Singapore? What clothes should I prepare?
Weather in Singapore is generally hot and humid. However, the buildings are mostly always air-conditioned and tend to get slightly cold. Participants will be expected to be in business attire during all council sessions. On socials night, smart casual attire will do.
6. If I travel with a teacher/guardian, do you provide facilities for them as well?
The registration fees do not include accommodation for any teacher/guardian. However, we can book the rooms for your teacher/guardian if required. Payment would be done separately.
Accommodation
1. What kind of a room will I be provided with?
If you choose to get accommodation through NTU MUN in the Nanyang Executive Centre, you shall be asked for your preferences at a later stage.
2. Is it possible to make arrangements for stay before and after the event?
The NTU MUN shall not be responsible for booking accommodation before and after the event. However, we can provide assistance to delegates who need them.

3. When exactly will we be allocated rooms?
Delegates who opt for accommodation in the Nanyang Executive Centre can check in from 2 PM on Friday, 10th February. The rooms shall be available for 3 days and 2 nights. The delegates will need to check out from the rooms on Sunday morning before council, when they shall be required to keep their luggage in the storage area of NEC.
